Splatterhouse is combat-oriented with main character Rick fighting various monsters in either hand-to-hand combat or with makeshift weapons, such as wooden planks and meat cleavers. Rick is able to attack his enemies with super strength and rip them apart. Splatterhouse is a horror-themed beat 'em up hack and slash video game developed and published by Namco Bandai Games in 2010 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. It is a reimagining and a reboot of the original Splatterhouse which was released in 1988. Escaping the burning mansion, Rick comes across a grave marker. The Hell Mask releases energy into the grave, reviving a giant monster named "Hell Chaos" that claws its way up from the earth and attempts to kill Rick.

The titular "Splatterhouse" is called the West Mansion, the residence of a brilliant Dr. West, who was rumored to have some secret experiments before his mysterious death. Since he was a world-renowned authority of the field, Rick and Jennifer traveled to West Mansion for research. Rick's mask is said to be a legendary ancient artifact which contains a sentient spirit that grants the user supernatural powers, and was also given a name (which was kept for the immediate sequels). The in-game cinemas are mostly identical in terms of story progression, except the intro is truncated and does not show Rick and Jennifer entering the mansion or the mask coming to Rick.

Rick first fights to save Jennifer, who has been kidnapped by an entity known as the Evil One, but it is revealed this was only a distraction while the Evil One took David. Rick also has a Special Attack, where he will perform a dropkick that sends him skidding along the ground, damaging any enemies he hits. Arcade Archives SPLATTER HOUSE
Rick is still suffering from his guilt of being unable to save Jennifer and has been plagued by nightmares of her and the Terror Mask, which reformed after breaking at the climax of the first game. Suddenly, the mask reappears to Rick and tempts him to find the house, telling him that Jennifer can be saved. It closes by telling Rick that it will give him power.[5][6] Rick succeeds in rescuing Jennifer, and the House sinks into the bottom of the river.
Like EC’s comics, Splatterhouse showed a voluminous – and perhaps opportunistic – knowledge of contemporary horror. Anyone with a passing interest in pop culture would have recognized that Rick’s mask was “inspired” by the hockey mask worn by Jason Voorhees in the latter Friday the 13th movies. Other details in Splatterhouse were evidently borrowed from such classics as Poltergeist, The Evil Dead, Night of the Living Dead, David Cronenberg’s The Fly, and lots more besides. Jennifer Willis (Shanelle Workman) is to have an interview with Dr. Henry West M.D.

However, after the credits, the pieces of the mask reassemble themselves and it laughs. While Rick and Jennifer are alone in the woods, a violent storm suddenly broke out. A strange mask comes to Rick's fallen form and goes on Rick's face, apparently giving him the strength to continue. He awakens in a dungeon of the house's lower level with a strange mask. Rick goes on a rampage through the dungeon and the mansion grounds, killing hordes of monsters.

In this state, Rick is significantly stronger and can execute a special attack that involves pieces of his flesh extending from his chest area and acting as a weapon, injuring any monster in the vicinity of their reach. Also, instead of actually wielding the weapons he finds, the mutated version of Rick simply flings them at enemies, dealing a fair bit more damage than swinging the weapons as normal Rick would have. If you’d stumbled on Splatterhouse in an arcade in the late ’80s, you would’ve immediately noted how different it looked from other video games of the era. While games had been growing in graphical richness and violence for a while – Operation Wolf was a gun-crazed money-spinner for Taito in 1986 – none were quite as gratuitous as Splatterhouse. Cast in the role of the hockey mask-wearing anti-hero, Rick, the player stalked the halls of the titular mansion, a haunted pile stuffed to the rafters with grotesque monsters and ghouls. It is revealed that Dr. West and the Corrupted had previously resurrected Leonora, but she was brought back as a demonic savage. West tried to contain her and bring her back completely, but one instance she escaped; Dr. West later found her holding a porcelain doll, horrified at the fate of the child she took it from. West was later summoned away from the town of Arkham and his home on a pointless errand, only to discover that the town's populace found out about Leonora, and imprisoned her to be burned as a witch. Rick encounters Leonora while traveling through time, emerging near the alit wickerman cage as the townsfolk are turned into monsters by the Corrupted. In an attempt to save Leonora thinking she was Jennifer, Rick was attacked by her demonic form, forcing him to kill her. A young Dr. West witnesses Rick stomping on her and loses his morality, vowing to tear down the gates of heaven and ascending on a pile of corpses, built from the townsfolk of Arkham and topped with Rick's dead body.
In the western version, the Mask instructs Rick to "go back to the house" and does not specify where Jennifer is. Thirty years ago, Namco was best known for the zip and vim of its arcade games. It conquered the world with Pac-Man, the first video game to introduce a cartoon-character hero and a subsequent storm of merchandising.
There are four possible endings, depending on if the player saves Jennifer and David, saves one or the other, or fails to save them both. All but the best ending start out with the Mask saying it will continue to exist as long as there's human suffering, and as it shatters, it says that the sky has cleared, and evil has once again been banished. Rick can lose limbs,[1] but is able to grow them back over time.[2] Arms can be used as clubs to fight enemies. In addition to the other provisions and indemnifications in this Agreement, if You are purchasing the Course for a minor or a group of minors, You agree to closely supervise the minors. You understand You will have to help them with the steps and instructions and agree to undertake this responsibility solely and fully. Pinspiration Group hereby grants You a personal, limited, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the Course and Course Materials.

Admittedly, the style was still cartoony, much like Ghosts ‘N Goblins was, but the larger-than-life violence and sprays of claret made it feel more like something out of EC Comics, the infamous publisher whose output was considered so corrupting that it hastened the birth of the Comics Code. Most elements of the home port backstory were reused for the 2010 Splatterhouse. To write a new article, just enter the article title in the box below.
